Position Objective

The consultancy service is expected to fulfill the objective of exploration of commercially important non-conventional fishery products to support Blue Economy in Bangladesh, highlighting the key biological and nutritional information and market potentials.

The main purpose of this assignment is to accomplish some specific tasks related to non-conventional fishery products under Science for Decision Making component of USAID\u2019s ECOFISH II Activity. The specific tasks of the consultancy services would be the generation of key biological and nutritional information and exploration of market potentials of commercially important non-conventional fishery products to enhance Blue Economy in Bangladesh. The key information needs to be presented in a in a regional and a national level stakeholders\u2019 consultation workshop and incorporate the feedback to finalize the outputs.

Responsibilities

Review the existing information on the non-conventional fisheries products available in Bangladesh to support Fisheries Blue Economy (FBE) and finding-out the information gaps. Fulfill the information gaps, wherever possible through field trip and stakeholder consultations or short sampling. Explore the potentials of non-conventional marine fishery products for domestic and export market, including on squid, cuttle fish, octopus, sea cucumber, starfish, crab, clamp, snail, mantis shrimp, jelly fish, pufferfish, sailfish and sword fish. Review the nutritional, medicinal, economic, and cultural importance of those products for domestic and export market. Conduct a comprehensive value chain analysis on the existing non-conventional fishery products. Analyze the market potentials for domestic and export market for the key non-conventional products. Present the outputs in the two consultation workshops and incorporate the feedback. Produce a catalogue to disseminate the information and popularize the products. Produce a comprehensive report incorporating all the information and recommendations. Follow the general WorldFish norms, guidelines and practices and any other obligations to be shared by HR of WorldFish.

Deliverables

Submission of a comprehensive report on non-conventional fishery products in Bangladesh to enhance Fisheries Blue Economy (soft copy in Word & PDF versions), including source of information, methods, outputs, recommendations, and challenges.

Requirements

This consultancy opportunity is open for National Consultant with the following skills and qualifications:

Minimum Master\u2019s Degree from an accredited university in the relevant fields is required for the consultancy service, but PhD in the relevant field could be an added advantage. Minimum 5 years working experiences in the relevant areas of fisheries. Publication in peer-reviewed journals in the relevant areas would be an added advantage. Demonstrated good report writing skills would be required. Having VAT registration number is mandatory.

Location and Duration

The successful consultant will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh with some field visits on part-time basis. The selection of consultant will be based on the relevant qualification and experience and the most competitive proposal. The interviews are expected to be held in April 2024 and only shortlisted consultant will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful consultant should be available to commence the consultancy contract for a maximum of 15 working days tentatively from 01 May 2024 till 31 July 2024.
