    Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

    The position of Economics Officer is assigned to the Bangladesh Resident Mission (BRM) within the South Asia Department. You will be based at BRM Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

    You will report to the designated International Staff and/or senior National Staff.

    Your Role

    As an Economics Officer, you will provide technical knowledge in economics; conducting economic analysis and forecasting; monitoring economic and political developments; maintaining and managing databases; and administering relevant technical assistance (TA) projects.

    You will:

    · Monitor, analyze and report on economic and financial sector developments in Bangladesh on a regular basis; contribute to economic bulletins and country and regional cooperation profiles; and maintain a comprehensive database on key indicators of the economy.
    · Prepare the host country section for the Asian Development Outlook and undertake economic analysis relevant for developing forecasts using appropriate macro models for the host country.
    · Support the Resident Mission’s (RM) economic, thematic, and sector work, including the publication of the RM's Working Paper Series.
    · Support ADB's country strategy and programming process for the host country by tracking and assessing economic performance and developments, including important economic policy initiatives of the government, and analyze their implications for ADB operations.
    · Contribute to the preparation of the Country Partnership Strategy and participate in Country Programing Missions.
    · Contribute to the preparation of the Country Performance Assessment.
    · Liaise with government and its agencies on a regular basis. These include the Economic Relations Division, Finance Division, Planning Commission, Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority, and others.
    · Participate in and organize seminars to disseminate findings of relevant economic sector work supported by ADB.
    · Administer the implementation of projects/programs related to macroeconomic, public financial management governance by monitoring the progress of assigned projects; actively identifying issues; and taking actions to address issues.
    · Prepare TA papers, internal procurement papers, and papers for extension of loan closing dates and reallocation of loan proceeds.
    · Support implementation of assigned TAs by providing administrative support in the recruitment of consultants; organizing tripartite meetings; and preparing relevant correspondence.
    · Perform other duties that may be assigned and reflected in the incumbent's workplan.

    Qualifications

    You will need:

    • Bachelor’s degree in economics and/or finance preferably with master’s degree or equivalent
    • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
    • Experience in international agencies will be preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Good computer skills with sound knowledge of common office software and systems used in ADB.
    • Proven ability to undertake background research and analysis on difficult but well-defined tasks, collect and organize required data and information.
    • Ability to manage priorities and workload within general schedule of work, instructions and standardized practices.

    Additional Information

    This opening is a local staff position. It is open only to nationals and residents of Bangladesh.

    This is a fixed term appointment with an option to renew for an initial period of 3 years following Section 3.1 (b) of Administrative Order No. 2.01 (“Recruitment and Appointment’). This appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment. It may be extended on an exceptional basis for a further fixed period at the option of ADB. This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.
