Work LocationThe internship is designed to be remote and full time and will be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months. Expected durationJune 15th 2024 (6 months) Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Anti-Racism Office was established by the UN General Assembly in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance to oversee, coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Strategic Action Plan on Addressing Racism and Promoting Dignity for All (SAP). The mandate of the Office is to dismantle racism within the UN Secretariat and promote a zero-tolerance approach to racism and racial discrimination by promoting open dialogues, effective training and knowledge provision, policy analysis and review as well as racial justice through enhanced reporting and proficient adjudication of racial discrimination cases. The Office operates under three pillars; 1) Advocacy which is centered on raising awareness about racism and racial discrimination within the United Nations through effective training programs and events for enhancing knowledge, fostering dialogue, and promoting behavioral change among UN leaders and staff. 2) Transparency which focuses on reviewing organizational policies, analyzing workforce data, and openly sharing data on management practices to promote transparency. 3) Accountability which is about holding managers and senior leaders accountable for ensuring a work environment that is free of racism and racial discrimination, and creating safe spaces for reporting incidents, building trust in the justice system, and addressing complaints effectively. The internship opportunity, situated within the Transparency Pillar, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the technical design, development, and maintenance of internal SharePoint sites. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer (Data Specialist) at the Anti-Racism Office, the intern will undertake the following duties: - Collaborate with the technical lead and other team members to contribute to the design and development of internal SharePoint sites. - Assist with documenting technical requirements and developing implementation and testing plans. - Assist with undertaking tests and troubleshooting activities. - Support outreach efforts and communication campaigns to raise awareness about the SharePoint sites among the users. - Assist in regularly updating and maintaining content on the SharePoint site, including adding new resources and removing outdated or irrelevant ones. - Assist with overall administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings, organizing files, and managing documentation related to the development and deployment of sites. - Provide general support to the team as needed, including assisting with research, data collection, and analysis. - Take initiative in learning about anti-racism initiatives, SharePoint development, and project management practices to enhance professional skills and contribute effectively to the project. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following conditions: - Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). - Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent). - Official written proof from the university supporting one of the above possibilities must be attached to the INSPIRA application. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate: - Strong knowledge of Microsoft cloud technologies, including Office 365, SharePoint Online, and Azure. - Proficiency in computer literacy and standard software applications (e.g., MS Office 365 or similar). - Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs. - Capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and presentations. - Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
