Work LocationFlexible Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe internship positions are located in the Talent Development Team (TDT), Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The Talent Development Team (TDT) is responsible for implementing the Organization's learning and development strategy at Headquarters and UNODC field offices, which emphasizes that staff development is an ongoing process and a necessary investment for UNOV/UNODC to successfully achieve the UN mandate. Among others, current projects and programmes in the teamโ€™s porfolio currently include learning initiatives related to UN 2.0 and the Quintet of Change (especially innovation), Career Development, Performance Management, Leadership and Management Development, Team-building and Team Performance, Language and Communication training, as well as initiatives to promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Within Language and Communication, TDT administers the UN Language Programme in Vienna, aiming to promote multilingualism within the Secretariat and the language capabilities of its staff. The language courses are intended for non-native speakers who want to acquire language skills to communicate in a social and/or professional context. Likewise, it provides an extensive range of professional training courses and information webinars for all staff working around the world. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individualโ€™s background, the ongoing TDT projects, as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: โ€ข Undertake independent projects to include research, drafting training proposals, presentations on various training and developmentโ€“related topics; โ€ข Prepare training-related statistics and gathering other data from existing databases, as required; โ€ข Provide support in preparation of training workshops and meetings, to include scheduling, review and preparation of materials, registrations, client communications and hosting webinars via Microsoft Teams; โ€ข Support the administration of the UN Language Programme in Vienna: compile and input studentsโ€™ information, assist in managing the programme registration, produce statistical reports , follow-up the payment of students, conduct and compile results for end-of-semester evaluations, etc.; โ€ข Contribute to the TDTโ€™s outreach activities which include training needs analysis, client satisfaction surveys and course evaluations, as well as regularly reviewing and updating content on the Client Support Portal, and marketing and promotion of various training programmes; โ€ข Assist with marketing campaigns and design diverse communication pieces such as brochures, flyers, guides and manuals; โ€ข Participate in team and project meetings and help to coordinate follow-up activities; โ€ข Perform other duties to support the team, as needed. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent); โ€ข Be computer literate in standard software applications; โ€ข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โ€ข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Additional InformationThe internships are envisaged for a period of 6 months with various starting times throughout 2024. The first position has a starting date in May/June 2024. The internships are UNPAID and full-time; i.e. 5 days per week (40 hours). The selected interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the team or project to which they are assigned. Based on individual requirements and on a case-by-case consideration, internships can be virtual, with interns serving from their country of residence.
