Project Background:
The Bangladesh Systems Strengthening for One Health (SSOH) aims to enhance Bangladesh's global health security (GHS) capacity to operate a high functioning and equitable One Health (OH) disease detection system that prevents, detects, and responds to new and emerging infectious and endemic zoonotic diseases, while ensuring good One Health governance and reducing risks of irreversible antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Through an evidence-informed and integrated systems approach, SSOH will strengthen Bangladesh's One Health Systems and enhance the country's capacity to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from infectious disease threats. The activity aims to achieve results under the following development objectives:
- Strengthen Systems for Better One Health Governance across the Government of Bangladesh (GOB).
- Strengthen One Health Disease Detection Systems for effective prevention, detection and response.
- Reduce Threats of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) across OH sectors.
Roleโs Purpose:
The Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Coordinator will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and will report directly to the Public Health Lead (PHTL). The AMR Coordinator will manage the implementation of all AMR activities across OH sectors. This position will coordinate, collaborate, and communicate with all other GOB and donor-funded AMR activities nationally to ensure implementation is aligned and leveraging existing programming.
Key duties and Responsibilities:
- Enables technical assistance from the technical team regarding AMR pertaining to laboratory network and surveillance systems, including designing, implementing, and monitoring technical strategies and programs and the development of tools in close coordination with the AHTL, PHTL, EWHTL.
- Works closely across the partnership to ensure coordinated efforts in AMR detection and surveillance are leveraged to best respond to country needs.
- Coordinates with the public sector and consortium partners to provide technical assistance to surveillance sites for AMR in sampling, sample management, analysis, and other practical issues across technical areas.
- Coordinates the implementation of assessments and monitoring programs for antimicrobial use (AMU) and consumption (AMC), working through GOB and other relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinates technical assistance for AMR standards compliance through the updating of treatment guidelines and AMR stewardship programs.
- Support Technical Leads to prepare the monthly and quarterly reports on activity progress or other interim, case studies, etc., in collaboration with other technical staff.
- In addition, it may be needed to perform additional activities within the SSOH activities, if felt necessary by the COP and PHTL.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorโs degree in public health, clinical microbiology, laboratory science or other related area. Masterโs degree preferred.
- At least nine years of experience including AMR surveillance and intersectoral programming across public, animal, and/or environmental and wildlife programming.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams with diverse stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Proven project management experience with sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Previous experience working on USG or other bilateral and multilateral organization projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and English language skills preferred.
Reporting
The AMR Coordinator will report to the Public Health Lead (PHTL).
