Result of ServiceThe goal of this job function is to provide support in implementation of activities related to women and trade in The Gambia as well as support the coordination of capacity building and market access activities for the network of SheTrades Hubs in Nigeria, Ghana and The Gambia. Work LocationBanjul, The Gambia Expected durationnine (9) months, with possible extension Duties and ResponsibilitiesBACKGROUND: The International Trade Centre (ITC) is a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, focusing in particular on developing the export capabilities of small and medium-sized businesses in developing and transition economies. ITC is 100% \"Aid for Trade\", supporting trade that delivers inclusive and sustainable development results. ITC works at three levels: โ€ข Strengthening the integration of the business sector of developing countries and economies in transition into the global economy, โ€ข Improving the performance of trade and investment support institutions for the benefit of small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), and enhancing the abilities of trade support institutions to better support them, โ€ข Improving the international competitiveness of SMEs. YEP Gambia In close collaboration with the Government of the Republic of The Gambia, ITC is implementing a number of private sector development initiatives including the European Union (EU)Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) on tourism and creative industries, and SheTrades Gambia Hub. The EU YEP Tourism and Creative Industries aims to contribute to increased inclusiveness and sustainability of The Gambiaโ€™s Tourism sector and Creative Industries. It has three main specific objectives of: a) improving business environment and institutional ecosystem; b) improving investment and market access; and c) increasing competitiveness of The Gambiaโ€™s tourism and creative industries. It aims to achieve the objectives by: i) streamlining and supporting implementation of strategies and regulation for the creative industries; ii) strengthening the technical and operational capacities of business support institutions; iii) building the branding and marketing capacities of actors in the tourism and creative industries; iv) budling capacities of MSMEs engaged in the tourism and creative industries with a focus on sustainable and inclusive tourism; and v) enhancing skills of target beneficiaries, mainly youth and women in areas which promote their employment in the tourism sector and creative industries. It will support the country to diversify source markets and attract more visitors year-round, including tourists with higher purchasing power. At the same time, it will boost The Gambiaโ€™s offering of green and inclusive tourism services and improve value chain linkages. SheTrades Initiative ITC SheTrades Initiative aims to create an ecosystem of integrated solutions that empower women economically through greater integration in trade and investment. The Initiative ensures that the right capacities and conditions are present for women to trade and that they are supported by an ecosystem of market partners and effective support organizations. At the same time, SheTrades works to remove inequalities in the trade policy space that hinder womenโ€™s participation. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Head, SheTrades Initiative and YEP Gambia Project Manager, the Associate Programme Advisor will be responsible for the following duties: โ€ข Works with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned projects related to women and trade, etc.; monitors and analyzes gende-specific assignments of project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues related to women in trade to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions. โ€ข Carries out basic research on inclusive trade of projects, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources. โ€ข Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies. โ€ข Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change. โ€ข Participates in survey initiatives; assists with design of data collection tools; issues data collection tools, reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares preliminary conclusions. โ€ข Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. โ€ข Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc. โ€ข Contributes to outreach activities; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities. โ€ข Participates in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc. โ€ข Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.). โ€ข Performs other duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsEDUCATION: A first-level university degree in business administration, management, economics or a related field. Note: An advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field may be accepted in lieu of relevant professional work experience. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project management, administration or related area. Experience working on women and trade issues in the Gambia and West Africa desirable. Experience on SMEs-level export readiness capacity building, market linkages development and institutional capacity building desirable. Competencies: Professionalism, Communication, Planning and Organizing LanguagesFluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage. Additional InformationThis contract will be administered on behalf of ITC by UNOPS. Applicants must be authorized to work in the duty station where the position is located. Eligible applicants selected from outside the duty station are responsible for any expenses in connection with their relocation to the duty station.
