PurposeThe International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations and frequently engages Consultants to support key aspects of its work. The consultant will provide technical expertise associated with a number of activities under the overall supervision of the Head of the FAL Section
Duties and Responsibilities1. Maintenance of the IMO Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business, including participation in modeling meetings of data sets.2. Preparation of documents for EGDH and FAL meetings.3. Preparation of briefs, notes, documents and reports; and the review and preparation of manuals and guidelines for publication.4. Provide technical expertise and assistance to the work of the Organization related to global port administration issues, including liaison with Member States, NGOs and IGOs, industry stakeholders and port authorities, as applicable.5. Participation in technical co-operation activities and projects related to port management and facilitation of international maritime traffic, including supporting the organization of missions and consultancies, and participation in meetings, workshops, seminars and training courses, delivered under the auspices of IMO's Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme.6. Oversee the regular updating and maintenance of the relevant sections of the IMO website.7. Act on behalf of the Organization at outside meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops and similar events, including preparation of lectures and technical papers, as directed.8. Undertake such other duties connected to the work of the Organization as may be assigned
Required Competencies1. Knowledge and experience on the maintenance of the IMO Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business2. Ability to draft and edit technical texts and present complex issues orally in a clear manner.3. Thoroughness and good attention to detail in all responsibilities, ensuring accuracy in delivery and implementation.4. Ability to coordinate activities and resources.5. Ability to work effectively under pressure with a positive and solutions-oriented approach.6. Builds and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, at all levels including in an international, cross-cultural context.7. Analytical problem solving, strong time management skills
ExperienceMinimum of five yearsโ progressive working experience in port agency, shipping or port administration is essential
EducationUniversity degree in computer science; port agency, shipping or port administration, or equivalent is essential
Language SkillsProficiency in English (oral and written) is essential. Knowledge of one or more of the other official languages of the United Nations would be an advantage
OthersExperience in MS Office applications. Thorough knowledge of relevant international conventions and other IMO instruments. Experience in port operations is essential. Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and multi-national management team would be an advantage
