Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Coordinator and in close coordination with the Project Associates and the Operational Associates the incumbent will be responsible for providing cultural mediation services between IOM staff and migrants the Organization serves in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, with a particular focus on Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration on (AVRR).
Support the Counselling Team in Rhineland Palatine at several locations with:
- Support accurate communication in Turkish language (and German and English langugue) during counselling sessions and vulnerability screenings and other meetings conducted by video conference by providing cultural mediation services;ย
- Provide interpretation services in the preferred language of the beneficiaries without paraphrasing, summarizing, omitting or adding information;ย
- Provide written translation to facilitate written conversation between IOM Staff and migrants;ย
- Answer phone calls from beneficiaries, scheduling appointments with the corresponding Staff;
- Provide written translation from German and/or English of documents for the purpose of dissemination to stakeholders and migrants.ย
- Maintain strict confidentiality during mediation sessions and follow designated program procedures regarding the destruction or maintenance of written notes within the required timeframe (e.g. immediately after each interpretation session);ย
- Remain objective, unbiased, impartial and neutral when providing interpretation services. Treat all parties to the conversation with courtesy, dignity and respect, regardless of their age, ethnicity, religion, political opinion, sex characteristics, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability or any other factors;ย
- Have an appropriate understanding of and sensitivity towards cultural practices and language differences that may exist between the parties to the conversation. Respect the use of proper pronouns that are preferred by the beneficiaries, when applicable;ย Experience
- Proven previous working experience in mediation and or translation and translating and or mediation services
- Working experience in the field of Migration is required.ย Languages
- C1 or native language level of Turkish (oral and written)
- C1 or native language level of German and/or Englishย (oral and written) IOMโs official languages are English, French and Spanish.
