Org. Setting and ReportingThe temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). Incumbents report administratively to the supervisor of the unit. Duties include driving, making local deliveries and general maintenance of the light or Armoured vehicle they drive. The temporary position is based in Port au Prince and is located in the Transport Unit. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Driver, GS-3 will be responsible for the following duties: โข Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc. โข Makes minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collect goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods. โข Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and general cargo goods. โข Collects and delivers of mail, documents, and other items. โข Meets official personnel at the airport. โข Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors. โข Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean. โข Performs VIP and Standby Driver duties โข Assists the workshop in the preparation of trucks for field trips, such as changing wheels, cleaning air filters, and general check-over โข Logs fuel consumption, maintenance etc. โข Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident. โข Acts as a team lead; assigns tasks/ shifts to junior drivers. โข Performs other duties as assigned. CompetenciesProfessionalism: Safely operates light passenger vehicles, Armoured vehicles, sedans, heavy and light 4X4 sports utility vehicles (SUV's), ambulances and pick-up trucks, cargo and passenger van within the mission area, in a timely and efficient manner with respect to all time schedules of transportation plans and requirements. EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent. Valid driverโs license. Job - Specific QualificationDriver training with a valid driverโs license, is required. Work ExperienceA minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in provision of driver services, including experience as a driver with a safe driving record, is required. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, light passenger vehicles, sedans, heavy and light 4x4 sports utility vehicles (SUV's), ambulances and pick-up trucks, cargo and passenger van and experience in driving armoured vehicles is required. Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization is desired. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
