About Us
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.
Program Description
The main goals of the program is to create a safe space where people can enjoy themselves as well as community building. Many classes are supported by community volunteers who either teach / co-teach or help with essential translation. We offer several levels, from ABC to intermediate.
Main Responsibilities
- Teaching several English language classes to groups of up to 15 people
 - Assisting in the development of the English curriculum
 - Planning lessons that are engaging and enjoyable for our service users
 - Creating a safe space where people who may have experienced trauma can feel safe
 - Creating lesson plans that focus on group work and community building
 - Teaching students that you may not have a shared language with
 - Attending weekly program and team meetings
 
Essential Criteria
- Experience in lesson planning and adhering to a curriculum
 - At least an intermediate knowledge of the English Language
 - Creativity in teaching low literacy classes
 - Are patient, creative, and kind to make students feel comfortable and empowered
 - Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open-minded, able to work in a fast-paced working environment, positive and adaptable to work with limited shared language with program participants
 - Excellent communication skills
 - Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
 - Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
 - Fluent English speaker
 
Desirable criteria
- Experience teaching English language
 - Knowledge or motivation to learn about trauma informed approach
 - Understanding of the implementation of psychosocial support programs
 - Potential to stay on the team for over 2 months
 - Previous experience working with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, or at-risk youth
 
We offer
- Five-day work week + full week break after every 6 weeks of work
 - Monthly reimbursement ( 100 euros per month after the fourth month)
 - Free accommodation on stays over 6 months, only 50 euros per month for those staying three or more months.
 - 5 euros per night for stays less than 3 months
