Project Context and Scope
IOM RMI under the Community Resilience Unit projects, works to enhance capacity of communities and government to be more resilient to natural hazards which are heightened due to climate change. Supported by United States and Japan governments, the ongoing projects support vulnerable communities to identify risks and prioritize and implement risk mitigation measures on emergency evacuation shelters, water security and food security. In addition to these community-based initiatives, the projects promote participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in cliate change adaotation and disater risk reduction

Community Resilience Unit-ย Majuro, RMI
ย Assist in community project orientation and deliver technical and practical training sessions to strengthen community capacity for identifying interventions. Carry out site technical feasibility assessments of proposed projects.
ย Assist the project management team and communities to develop designs and scopes of work, and prepare technical requirements or detailed engineering design documents ย (DED) ย needed for the construction of community-identified water security/WASH intervention projects and other related projects.
Ensure management of construction projects meets their intended scope, timeline, quality, and budget as per the project work plan, and promptly inform of any delays or actions required for timely completion of activities.
Assist in organizing CWGs or implementing partners for the labor force requirements of construction projects. Conduct safety and technical orientations, provide hands-on guidance, and mentor CWGs to ensure proper use of materials and equipment supplied by IOM, and that projects are completed on time as per construction plans and specifications.
Work closely with the Procurement Unit on specifications and BoQ requirements for RFQ issuance, and conduct technical evaluation of quotes as advised by the Procurement Unit.
Plan and coordinate closely with logistics partners and receiving communities/CWGs to ensure that materials are delivered to respective sites safely and in a timely manner.
Work closely with national project assistant or community coordinators in planning field work and act as team leader during travel and field work.ย
Prepare project status reports to monitor progress by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information, and report on various aspects of the projects including financial, technical, and schedule compliance. Maintain effective and active communication with targeted communities and government partners, ensuring relevant and necessary information is transmitted in a timely manner.
ย Use AutoCAD (if available) to review and interpret blueprints; draft plans and details; and modify existing AutoCAD drawings. Update and incorporate changes to buildings on โas-builtโ drawings as necessary.
ย Comply with IOM's policies and procedures, including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment, to contribute to a healthy workplace.
Undertake duty travel in project implementation areas.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Education
Masterโs degree in civil engineering, architecture or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience
University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience in practical construction or engineering field
Certification as a licensed professional engineer or architectExperience
- Experience in the field of construction engineering and contract management
Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience with camping/backpacking in remote, hardship and/or rustic locations for longer periods of time (1-2 weeks)
Experience working with a non-governmental organizations and/or international organization an advantage.Skills
- Strong swimming skills
- Ability to tolerate traveling on small aircraft or long-distance boat travel (1-2 days) on small and medium-sized vessels.Languages
