Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.  In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; orc) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.f) The intern will be working for the IOM CO for Austria (Vienna) on part-time basis (most probably 20h/week) starting 15th January 2026 or as soon as possible.g) Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The Policy Research and Migration Law Unit: 

Through migration research, the IOM Country Office for Austria supports policymakers in the development and implementation of migration policies and practices. Our research activities include legal research, policy analysis as well as the analysis of statistics, focusing on Austria within the European context. IOM Austria’s Policy Research and Migration Law Unit has published numerous studies on the topics of migration and asylum in Austria. As the National Contact Point Austria in the European Migration Network (EMN), IOM Austria is contributing to the collection of up-to-date, objective, reliable and comparable information across Europe.   The Intern at the Policy Research and Migration Law Unit in the IOM Country Office for Austria will mainly perform duties related to the implementation of the project “TALENT MOVES – Policy analyses on immigration and retention of skilled workers”. The main responsibilities are: 

• Contributing to research: the intern conducts desk research and literature reviews, transcribes expert interview and contributes to research outputs as requested;

• Editing, proofreading and translation: the intern supports the team with reference management, editing, proofreading and translation German/English;

• Other responsibilities: the intern attends internal and external meetings upon request and performs any other related tasks that may be assigned. EducationMinimum Bachelor Level Degree in Political Science, International Relations, Migration Studies, Law, Social Science or related fields Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of migration governance in Austria and the EU with a specific focus on labour migration;

• Proven experience in research and excellent writing skills;
