Work LocationNew York Expected durationUp to six months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is located in the Office of the Director, Financing for Sustainable Development Office, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The incumbent reports to the Special Assistant to the Director. The Financing for Sustainable Development Office provides effective secretariat support for sustained follow-up to and implementation of the outcomes of the International Conferences on Financing for Development and the delivery of the means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. For more information, please visit https://financing.desa.un.org/ The last FFD Conference was the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) that was held 30 June to 3 July 2025. The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development concluded in Sevilla, Spain, with 130 initiatives turning the Sevilla Commitment or Compromiso de Sevilla into action through concrete steps to boost investment in sustainable development, address the debt crisis afflicting many of the worldโ€™s poorest countries, and give developing countries a stronger voice in the international financing architecture. The Compromiso the Sevilla and more information can be found here: https://financing.desa.un.org/ffd4 The Office of the Director supports the Director and Branches of the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) in all aspects of its work. It ensures that all workflows are executed in a timely and efficient manner which includes liaising with internal and external partners. Key Responsibilities - Support the Director with the daily background material needed for official events and meetings. - Assist with the preparation and submission of speeches, talking points and background notes requested for UN Senior Officials on financing for development matters - Support the organization of FFD related meetings, events and conferences. - Support the scheduling of the Directorโ€™s meetings and official missions - Attends meetings, prepares draft follow-up e-mails and meeting summaries as needed - Monitors follow-up activities as appropriate - Work together with the branches and IT focal point to keep the FSDO Website updated - Perform ad hoc requests as needed Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent). (c) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. (d) Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
