Work LocationVienna Expected durationThree to Six Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Advocacy Section (AS), Public Affairs and Policy Support Branch (PAB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is offering an internship opportunity for a period of six months, starting in April 2026. The Public Advocacy Section serves as a driving force in advancing the organization's mission to combat drugs, crime and corruption on a global scale. Among its initiatives are awareness campaigns, policy advocacy and capacity-building programmes aimed at empowering governments, law enforcement agencies and civil society to effectively address the challenges posed by drugs, crime and corruption. Among other activities, the team works on developing communication strategies, managing public relations including with the media, crisis communications, digital and social media management, brand management and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communications efforts. The internship is unpaid and full-time (five days per week – 40 hours.) The intern will support the Advocacy Section’s social media work, including drafting and editing content, adapting messages for different platforms, scheduling posts, and monitoring performance. The role will also involve creating simple visual assets using tools such as Canva, in line with UNODC branding and communication guidelines. The selected intern will gain practical working experience in an international organization setting in communications while providing valuable support to the Advocacy Section team, contributing actively to increasing the organization's visibility. Qualifications/special skills- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). - Be computer literate in standard software applications; - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
