Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Administrative Law Division (ALD), DMSPC/OHR, is seeking highly motivated interns who wish to gain professional experience in administrative law within an international organization. This three to six-month internship offers a practical educational experience and provides interns with the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. Interns perform tasks under the supervision of a Legal Officer or a Conduct and Discipline Officer : The responsibilities may include, but not limited to: • Assisting in preparing advice on appeals and disciplinary matters. • Assisting in conducting reviews of the status of follow-up on pending allegations of misconduct and preparing related communications to Member States. • Assisting in the review of conduct and discipline-related policy documents with a view to supporting necessary revisions and/or updates. • Conducting legal research and analyzing issues arising from the application of the Staff Regulations and Rules. • Assisting counsel to prepare written and oral submissions in proceedings before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT). • Assisting in drafting various legal documents and communications. • Attending and taking notes at conferences and meetings. • Supporting information and knowledge management practices. • Working on the Conduct and Discipline website and/or presentations. Allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work. Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning. Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary. Uses time efficiently. Skills: 1- Be computer literate in standard software applications. 2- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter, and 3- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Academic Qualifications: 1- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), 2- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), 3- Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, or 4- If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree in Law or an area related to Law. Experience: No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
