Project Background:
The Bangladesh Systems Strengthening for One Health (SSOH) aims to enhance Bangladesh's global health security (GHS) capacity to operate a high functioning and equitable One Health (OH) disease detection system that prevents, detects, and responds to new and emerging infectious and endemic zoonotic diseases, while ensuring good One Health governance and reducing risks of irreversible antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Through an evidence-informed and integrated systems approach, SSOH will strengthen Bangladesh's One Health Systems and enhance the country's capacity to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from infectious disease threats. The activity aims to achieve results under the following development objectives:
- Strengthen Systems for Better One Health Governance across the Government of Bangladesh (GOB).
- Strengthen One Health Disease Detection Systems for effective prevention, detection and response.
- Reduce Threats of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) across OH sectors.
Roleโs Purpose:
The Laboratory Coordinator will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and will report directly to the Animal Health Lead (AHTL). The Laboratory Coordinator will provide and support technical assistance from the technical team pertaining to laboratory network and surveillance systems, including designing, implementing, and monitoring technical strategies and programs and the development of tools in close coordination with the AHTL, PHTL, and EWHTL.
Key duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides and support technical assistance from the technical team pertaining to laboratory network and surveillance systems, including designing, implementing, and monitoring technical strategies and programs and the development of tools in close coordination with the AHTL, PHTL, EWHTL.
- Works closely across the consortium and partners to ensure coordinated efforts in surveillance and detection are leveraged to best respond to country needs.
- Coordinates with the public sector and consortium partners to provide technical assistance to surveillance sites in sampling, sample management, sample transport, analysis, and other practical issues across technical areas.
- Monitors for quality assurance and identifies areas for skill and quality improvement.
- Assesses the needs of laboratories for biosafety and biosecurity to enable the strengthening of international standards across OH sectors.
- Support Technical Leads to prepare the monthly and quarterly reports on activity progress or other interim, case studies, etc., in collaboration with other technical staff.
- In addition, it may be needed to perform additional activities within the SSOH activities, if felt necessary by the COP and AHTL.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorโs degree or higher in applied laboratory science, public health, veterinary microbiology or other relevant area. Masterโs degree preferred.
- At least nine years of experience working in related programming, including experience working in laboratory and surveillance settings.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams with diverse stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Proven project management experience with sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Previous experience working on USG or other bilateral and multilateral organization projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and English language skills.
Reporting
The Laboratory Coordinator will report to the Animal Health Lead (AHTL).
