National Focal Point for the SDG Stories Project in Kuwait

Result of ServiceThe incumbent will be responsible for the following: - Identification of 7 schools in Kuwait to participate in the SDG Stories Phase V. - Conducting field visits to beneficiary schools conducted by a joint team from ESCWA and the national focal point in Kuwait. - Successful organization of highlight events related to the SDG Stories Initiative in Kuwait. - Establishing partnerships with the civil society and the private sector to support the implementation of the SDG Stories Project. Work LocationKuwait Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The SDG Stories Team was established by ESCWA’s Executive Secretary to engage young persons aged 7 to 16, across the Arab region, with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using storytelling. This is achieved primarily through the development and dissemination of a comic book, the “ESCWA Stories”, that presents engaging stories centered on the SDGs. Against this background, the SDG Stories Team is seeking the services of a designated national focal point to support and facilitate the work of the SDG Stories Team in Kuwait. Duties and responsibilities - Acting as focal point between ESCWA and the designated beneficiary schools in Kuwait, in support of the “SDG Stories” Initiative. - Identifying 7 target schools to take part in the SDG Stories Initiative for the academic year 2025-2026. - Advising schools and national authorities and stakeholders in Kuwait on the adoption and implementation of activities related to the SDGs. - Facilitating the flow of information between ESCWA and the designated beneficiary schools in Kuwait. - Participating with the SDG Stories Team in their field visits to beneficiary schools. - Assisting the SDG Stories Team in the planning and organization of events relevant to the initiative, including capacity building sessions for teachers. - Exchanging expertise with the SDG Stories Team and facilitating cooperation and partnership. - Contributing to the promotion of the SDGs, intergenerational dialogue, good citizenship and global leadership among teachers, staff and students participating in the SDG Stories Initiative. Qualifications/special skillsA recognized first level degree in education, sociology, arts, sciences, or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience with local and international schools, preferably in Kuwait, is required. Working on extra-curricular projects and activities related to education, science and culture is desirable. Relevant UN experience is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic is required. Knowledge of English is desirable. Note: \"Fluency\" equals a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (speak, read, write and understand) and \"Knowledge of\" equals a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.
