Non-Ruminant Nutritionist

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Non-Ruminant Nutritionist who supports youth employment activities related to innovations around poultry feed and feed management in the SNV-ILRI RAYEE II poultry value chain development activities.
The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and coordinate poultry feed-focused youth employment interventions in RAYEE II project areas, including developing and deploying poultry feeding packages and feed sources with high autonomy. Coordinate the introduction of innovative and cost-effective poultry feeding technologies for organized women's and youth groups in the RAYEE II project areas (e.g., precision feeding, alternative protein sources such as black soldier fly larvae, or BSF). Facilitate collaboration with RAYEE II project partners and local stakeholders for joint implementation of poultry feed-related innovations. Coordinate poultry feed capacity development activities, including the preparation of training materials and other documentation, with a focus on job creation. Provide tailored training, advisory, and support services for women and youth groups on poultry feed formulation, production, and marketing. Collaborate with the project team in documenting and disseminating lessons learned, case studies, and innovative success stories related to poultry feed delivery. Contribute to quality technical reporting, including preparation and timely progress submission and annual technical reports. Conduct data analysis using appropriate statistical and econometric software. Coordinate stakeholder workshops, including consultative, planning, and review workshops. Conduct a literature review on poultry feed-related subjects with special focus on alternative and indigenous feed resources. Prepare research papers, guidelines, tools, briefs, and scientific presentations, as well as technical reports. Perform any other related duties as may be required.Academic and professional qualifications:
Education:
Masterโs degree in animal nutrition, Animal Production, Animal Sciences, poultry Science, or a relevant fieldExperience:
A minimum of three years or more of relevant work experience in poultry feed research for development activitiesSkills:
Practical experience in feed inventory studies Practical and working knowledge of ration formation and training farmers/youth, if possible, in other alternative feed sources such as BSF and Banana stems Extensive experience in the poultry value chain development, including engagement with farmer /women and youth-related interventions Extensive understanding of the different poultry production systems in Ethiopia Proven ability to train and mentor youth and SMEs Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to innovateDuty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Grade: HG 13
Minimum Base Salary: Birr 42,084 per month
Terms of appointment: This is a National Staff (NS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes a very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc. The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus in Addis Ababa.
