Work LocationParis Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Mitigation Branch, located within the Climate Change Division, supports developing countries to improve energy efficiency and increase use of renewable energy as part of their efforts to achieve low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathways. It does so by providing guidance on sound policy, technology, and investment choices, and by facilitating knowledge generation and sharing, capacity building, peer learning and through technical assistance to developing countries. The consultancy is based in the Mitigation Branch of the Climate Change Division, at the Paris duty station. The assistance of the Individual Contractor (IC) is required to provide support to the Chief of Branch. The IC is requested to provide support in the areas of administration, branch-wide project portfolio management, and programmatic coordination. Broadly, the consultant will contribute to achieving the overall Branch objectives and priorities. Qualifications/special skillsMasterโs Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Management, Environmental Sciences, International Relations, or related field. Qualifying years of experience calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognised by the UN. A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in programmatic and project management work related to climate change mitigation (decarbonization) is required. Previous work experience in an international organization is required. Strong writing skills must be demonstrated. Proficiency with budgeting and excel formulas is required. Previous work with the UN system is desirable. Experience with UNEP processes and procedures would be an asset. Experience with UMOJA system is desirable.
