5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
  Context In close collaboration with national authorities through the project “Promotion of the integration of the refugee population into the labor market” IOM aims at promoting the integration of the refugee population into the labor market, through:

  a) the further development of a stable, effective, flexible and adapted approach enabling beneficiaries through       vocational trainings, Greek language courses and traineeships to facilitate labour market more easily and better     prepared, and

  b) the implementation of complementary and interconnected activities regarding the proper preparation of
  beneficiaries, building up their employability skills and enabling well organized cooperation with businesses and     other stakeholders.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Project Manager (Integration Portfolio Coordinator), the successful candidate will support with the outreach and interpretation activities inside the accommodation facilities in the assigned area of responsibility.

  1. Establish and maintain contact with Camp Managers to ensure smooth coordination and implementation of the outreach as well as with municipal authorities and relevant institutions (employers’ unions etc).
  2. Organize meetings with the selected companies/service providers for the traineeship components.
  3. Coordinate with the National Project Coordinator (Attica) everyday work and priorities, strategic planning, organize meetings with the relevant Ministry and the Donor.
  4. Coordinate actions with relevant departments of IOM Greece prior to the dissemination of any information to the selected companies, to beneficiaries etc.
  5. Perform regular monitoring and field visits.
  6. Coordinate the work of the outreach teams and job field monitors, provide accurate and up to date information, and ensure the proper registration process.
  7. Organize and carry out necessary administrative work related to the outreach, preparation of the operational plans, outreach plans and relevant follow-up actions, including necessary logistics support (coordination with Camp Manager on training premises, catering, storage of equipment when needed etc).
  8. Coordinate the project team in the North with the relevant inputs and clear instructions.
  9. Coordinate with other projects in Thessaloniki office to ensure synergies and efficient use of resources.
  10. Monitor language service providers and provides input for the reports.
  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Education
    • High School Diploma with minimum six years of relevant working experience, or;
    • University degree in political science, international relations, social work, law, sociology, social anthropology, management and business administration, public administration, or any other related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum four years of work experience.
    • Master’s degree in the above fields will be considered an advantage. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.   Experience
      • Previous experience in a similar role preferred;
      • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment preferred;
      • Experience in an international environment; Skills
        • Familiar with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees preferred;
        • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles;
        • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc); Languages
          • Fluency in English and Greek (written and oral) is required. IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
