The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit two (02) dynamic and experienced Research AssociatesโAgronomists to support the effective implementation of sweetpotato-focused agricultural interventions. The role will involve strengthening farmer capacities, ensuring efficient field execution, and generating high-quality data to inform project outputs and outcomes. These positions fall under the IFAD-funded DEFIS project, whose overall objective is to improve the food and nutritional security of family farms in the Amoronโi Mania and Haute Matsiatra regions through the promotion and adoption of improved, resilient, and nutritious sweetpotato varieties and related technologies.

About the Role
The successful candidates will report to the Country Manager and Senior Scientist for Madagascar and will be based in Ambositra and Fianarantsoa, respectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Train farmers and partners on sweetpotato production, pest and disease management, post-harvest handling, processing, and silage making.
Support field implementation activities, including establishing demonstration plots, organizing field days, and providing technical backstopping to partners and beneficiaries.
Coordinate logistics and the distribution of sweetpotato vines and small-scale processing equipment.
Develop training and data collection materials, collect field data, and contribute to data analysis and project reporting.
Lead awareness and outreach activities and represent CIP in local and regional coordination meetings.
Engage with local authorities and support surveys and studies as required.
Requirements
Masterโs degree in Agriculture, Biology, or a related field.
At least 6 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge of agriculture in Madagascar and field experience in agricultural settings are preferred.
Specialized knowledge of sweetpotato is an added advantage.
Experience in designing training tools, providing agricultural extension services, and working with smallholder farmers.
Experience with gender-responsive interventions is preferred.
Excellent written and spoken French and Malagasy.
Working knowledge of English is required.
Strong planning and organizational skills, team spirit, and effective interpersonal communication abilities.
Ability to use digital tools is preferred.
Advanced proficiency in MS Office software packages.
Ability to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
