ContextThis UNV assignment is intended to strengthen the capacity and expertise of UNIC Cairo and contribute to the Centre’s efforts to increase public awareness of and support for UN action, including to achieve the Sustainable Developments Goals through the producing and disseminating high-quality, evidence-based and people-oriented information material and implementing effective communication campaigns, including online. The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of UNIC Director and the supervision of UNIC National Information Officer and will perform the assigned duties mentioned below.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of Public Information Assistant, the UN Volunteer researcher will: • Collect, verify, and analyze historical and current data on Egypt’s role in the UN from 2000 to 2025. • Challenge assumptions: critically evaluate whether stated contributions have led to measurable global/regional outcomes. • Contribute content that’s accurate, insightful, and grounded in credible sources. Scope of Work / Key Tasks: 1. Primary & Secondary Research • Mine UN archives, General Assembly/Security Council records, Egyptian diplomatic communiqués. • Track peacekeeping deployment data and Egypt’s voting records at the UN (not just highlight favourable narratives). • Interview or correspond with diplomats, UN staff, and scholars (not just quote press releases). 2. Content Development • Prepare factual case studies of Egypt’s involvement in peacekeeping, mediation, and UN initiatives. • Draft outlines, reports, and backgrounders for key chapters (especially Security Council, General Assembly, Peacekeeping). 3. Analysis & Interpretation • Provide a balanced view: Where did Egypt lead, where was it passive, and where could its role be overstated? • Identify gaps between rhetoric and impact. 4. Quality Assurance • Ensure source citations are verifiable. • Flag data inconsistencies or oversights in existing drafts. • Collaborate with designers and writers to ensure coherence.

Living conditions and remarksCairo, Egypt is a family duty station with a wide range of services (health, education and leisure) and good living conditions. It has long been a center of the region’s political and cultural life, with high levels of tourism. Like other similar cities, Cairo offers good quality of life in terms of access to shopping centers, banks, medical services, educational facilities, cultural events, etc. The Arab Republic of Egypt has a unique geographical position in Northeast Africa, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, on the Mediterranean and Red Sea, and its connection to Sub Saharan Africa through the Nile Valley.
