Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) plays a leading role in supporting governments and communities to build health systems that are responsive to the needs of these populations and address public health concerns along the mobility continuum. IOM uses targeted interventions such as direct health service provision, establishment of referral networks for specialized care, health promotion for migration-affected people and host communities.ย
In Afghanistan, IOM provides and supports access to good-quality primary and secondary healthcare services, with a focus on returnees, migrants, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and underserved host communities in border regions, as well as other vulnerable populations across the country. IOM employs a direct implementation modality of healthcare services through its Mobile Health Teams (MHTs), Community Based Vaccination Centres (CBVC), Vaccination Outreach Teams (OT) and Basic Health Centers (BHC), which ensures greater responsiveness to community needs. The primary health care services provided include reproductive health, maternal, neonatal and child health services, trauma care, basic nutrition and community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). IOM also provides technical support as well as procurement, warehousing, and transportation of medical commodities for external partner health facilities. Under the overall supervision of the Program Coordinator (Migration Health) and the direct supervision of the Medical Supply Chain Officer, in coordination with the missionโs Supply Chain Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for assist in the management of drugs, vaccines, medical supplies, and medical equipment being used in IOM Afghanistan.
- Assist in maintaining a system for the safe custody, storage and proper labelling of medicine, medical supplies, vaccines, and medical equipment at IOM Kabul, Field Clinics and warehouses. Complete the required documentation in accordance with IOM and national rules and regulationsย
- Support quality control by monitoring of the expiry dates of medicine, medical supplies and vaccines in coordination with the focal staff at Field Clinics and warehouses. Review Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and other documents for procured items to ensure compliance with required standards.ย
- Contribute to the analysis of data gathered from the medicine, medical supplies and vaccines and keep electronic and hard copies on file.ย
- In coordination with the Programme Coordinator (Migration Health) and the Supply Chain Unit, assist in preparing the required paperwork and documents in order to procure, import and distribute medicine, medical supplies and vaccines within Afghanistan as well as keep updated records and lists of medicine, medical supplies and vaccines used by IOM.ย
- Maintain and update records and databases regarding the consumption of medicine, medical supplies and vaccines. Monitor expiring items and prepare lists of the same for timely donation. Provide technical information on donation and disposal of expiring medicine, medical items and vaccines based on IOM and National Guidelines on Donations of Medicine and Medical Supplies.ย
- Monitor and improve Rational Use of Medicine at the health facilitiesย across IOM/MHU supported provinces
- Train IOMโs staffs and partners on pharmacy management and efficiently usage of pharmaceutical tools and formats and following on the consumption reports.
- In coordination with the MHU Provincial focal points, consolidate and place quarterly orders for medicine, medical supplies and vaccines as requested by various field clinics. Indicate detailed specifications such as generic names, packaging, formulation, and other pertinent information required to procure medicine, medical supplies/equipment, and vaccines to facilitate the procurement process.ย
- In coordination with the supply chain unit and the Programme Coordinator (Migration Health), verify/check quality and costs of suppliersโ products; and make appropriate recommendations of reputable and reliable suppliers of medicine, vaccines, medical equipment/supplies.ย
- Receive and inspect deliveries of medicine, medical supplies/equipment and vaccines and forward the certified delivery notes to SCU for payment. Verify the proper packing of said items prior to distribution and shipment to the field clinics
- Replenish and check the contents, especially the expiry dates of medicine and medical supplies and the condition of medical equipment of the medical escort kits before and after use by medical escorts based on the approved medical escort kit content list.ย
- Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy and medical supply storage unit for supplies for IOM Kabul and Field Clinics.ย

- Bachelorโs degree in pharmacy from an accredited academic institution with 4 years of relevant professional experience, orย
- High School diploma with 6 years of relevant professional experience
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology/ Pharmacy is an advantage
