Women and girls play an essential role in safeguarding the environment and advancing social and economic development. Despite progress in some areas including health and education, Arab countries continue to face significant challenges in achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. In 2020, ESCWA launched the Arab Gender Gap Report (AGGR 2020), providing a comprehensive analysis of gender inequality in the region. As the 2030 deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approaches, a follow-up report in 2025 is crucial to assess regional progress, highlight emerging and persistent challenges, and showcase good practices across Arab States. The Arab Gender Gap Report (AGGR) 2025, will offer critical insights to help advance gender equality in social, economic and political life. Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, Statistical Assistants will be responsible for the following duties: โข Assists in data collection, compilation and dissemination. โข Generates tables and graphs. โข Participates in the review and compilation of background materials. โข Assists in evaluating and examining data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity from different sources. โข Compiles basic statistical series for comparison against different sources. โข Updates statistical series in established formats for upload into the data portal and maintenance of relevant computerized databases. โข Participate in drafting statistical reports and provides statistics and information for publication. โข Assist in liaising with national statistical offices and focal points in the United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information. โข Prepares data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests. โข Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsA bachelorโs degree in statistics, economics, finance or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of one year of experience in statistical work or related area is required Proficiency in Excel is required. Knowledge in drafting reports is required. Knowledge in research and data analysis is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
