Technical Director, Nutrition
The Technical Director, Nutrition is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for activities in nutrition under the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project in Nepal.. The Technical Director will be required to implement ambitious work plans to improve nutrition outcomes in Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), especially the Family Welfare Division (FWD), Department of Health Services (DoHS), as well as subnational government authorities. The Technical Director will contribute to the design of interventions, work alongside the government, project staff, and local implementing partners to ensure technical excellence. The individual in this role will collaborate with other team members to ensure the provision of life-saving commodities and equipment align with on-the-ground needs and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning activities. The Technical Director will work closely with the EpiC Nepal Project Director, Technical Director, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) and other senior project leaders, the United States Department of State, FWD/DoHS Officials, and EpiC technical backstops in nutrition, strategic information, and program management to achieve an ambitious set of results quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall implementation of nutrition interventions.
- Provide technical oversight and support to a team of technical specialists in management of acute malnutrition, private sector engagement, and more.
- Manage a project with ambitious timelines while ensuring sustainable, high-quality interventions.
- Develop and oversee key strategic partnerships with MOHP and subnational government authorities, the United States government, other international organizations working in or nutrition, and local implementing partners.
- Liaise with FHI 360 experts in, nutrition, strategic information, private sector engagement, and more to ensure technical excellence.
- Work closely with local, regional, and headquarters-based staff to ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget.
- Lead the implementation and monitoring of annual work plans and collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate budget tracking. Contribute to the preparation of program reports, monthly updates, other necessary technical and programmatic documents and documentation of successes, lessons learned and good practice.
- Serve as the primary focal point for EpiC Nepal with the United States Department of State on all elements of the nutrition program.
- Provide line management to three team members and supplementary management to their reports including fostering a team environment that can deliver results.
- Represent FHI 360 in external functions at international, national, and subnational events.
- Serve as a member of the Nepal Senior Leadership Team and provide input and assistance to the country office and program management and operations as well as business development activities.
- Coordinate with other EpiC senior leaders including the Associate Director for Strategic Information, Senior Project Manager, Deputy Project Director, HIV, and Technical Director, Procurement and Supply Chain Management to ensure strategic alignment and efficient use of resources (financial, human, and relational) across the project.
- Perform other duties as assigned by FHI 360 Country Representative/EpiC Nepal Project Director and/or other supervisors.
- Master's degree in public health, behavioral and social sciences, or a related field with five to seven years of experience in managing public health programs focused on nutrition, or a bachelor's degree with over seven years of experience as mentioned.
- Experience and understanding of the national nutrition program components and implementation requirements including critical, life-saving technical approaches,
- Understanding and experience working alongside the Government of Nepal to implement health programming.
- Experience working in an international non-governmental organization managing diverse teams to implement nutrition-focused public health programs.
- Experience establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and partnerships with partners and major stakeholders.
- Experience overseeing all aspects of projects, preferably large donor-funded, including program and financial management, human resources, compliance, and quality assurance.
- Experience guiding program, technical, financial and administrative teams to complete objectives/activities on time and within budget while meeting high quality standards.
- Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open to managing time working with different teams in different time zones as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, coordination and collaboration, team building and management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.) an advantage.
- Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills. Eligibility: Only Nepali citizens are eligible to apply.
