Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Transport Section of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan. The Vehicle Technician reports to the Chief Transport Officer and shall be responsible for the technical and operational effectiveness of UN owned standard commercial pattern vehicles and civilian armored vehicles at the Transport workshop in Islamabad. ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the Transport Workshop Manager, the incumbent performs the following duties: Maintain, service and repair United Nations vehicles in accordance with vehicle manufacture standards recommendations and schedules. Engaging with drivers to understand vehicle issues, conducting inspections, and performing repairs with precision and professionalism. Ensures that all relevant safety procedures have been followed when repairing and fitting replacement parts; assists in identifying, diagnosing and rectifying various faults; Assists with the identification of required parts. Auto body repairs duties includes: perform damage inspection and assessment to determine the extent and location of the damage; repair or replace damaged parts; panel beating on dents or damaged body and apply body filler; perform welding and bonding of damaged sections of panels; surface preparation, apply sanders, primer; perform painting and refinishing to restore the vehicle's origin appearance; replace broken glasses and windshields. Repairs and restores vehicles to their original condition after accidents or collisions. Mechanical duties include engine tune ups, service of hydraulic brake system, cooling and fuel systems and the steering/suspension system including wheel alignment. Diagnoses, repair and overhaul major assemblies and components, e.g. engines, axles and transmissions; Identify various faults and diagnoses the problem with step-by-step service manual and electronic diagnosis tools. Perform quality control (QC) and vehicles test drive for technical analyses, and road worthiness; works independently with minimum supervision, proficiency in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance, knowledge of automotive systems, familiarity with diagnostic tools; update the electronic work orders in the Electronic Vehicle Management System (EVMS) and Electronic Fuel Management System (EFMS) to reflect accurate records; prepare cost estimates for the expendables used in the repair of UN vehicles and completes the relevant parts of the 'Damage Discrepancy Reports (DDR). Work ExperienceAt least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in Light and Heavy duty 4x4 vehicles maintenance services and repairs and / or experience in automotive panel beating, welding and bonding, panel surface and refinishing, replacement of vehicle panel glasses, door glasses and windshields, and replacement of vehicle`s body components is required. The minimum year of experience is reduced to one (01) year for candidates who possess a First-level university degree or equivalent. Experience in the application of the guidelines and procedures relative to the safe operation of workshop equipment such as vehicles lifts, engine hoist and various other electrical, pneumatics and hydraulic equipment, welding machine, painting booth, orbital sander, acetylene and oxygen torch is desirable. Knowledge of automotive electric/electronic and/or automotive air conditioning system repairs is desirable. Experience working in an international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
