Work LocationCairo, Egypt Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Setting UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. It is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. In 2011, the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) was established in Cairo under a cooperation agreement with the Government of Egypt. UN-Habitat ROAS is mandated to provide technical cooperation and capacity-building support to 18 countries across the Arab region: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), to be held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, 17 to 22 May 2026, is UN-Habitatโ€™s premier global conference on sustainable urbanisation. To ensure broad and inclusive participation, UN-Habitat Regional Offices play a critical role in mobilising and preparing partners from their respective regions to participate and also disseminate key updates and partner-opportunities. The preparations for WUF13 are supported by coordinated strategies on communication, global advocacy and regional mobilization, making full use of the UN-Habitat regional and country office network to ensure coherence, broaden outreach and expand participation. Together, they form an integrated approach that combines messaging, visibility and engagement at global, regional and local levels. Reporting Line The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Knowledge Management and Reporting Officer and the overall supervision of the Regional Director. Duties and responsibilities The consultant will provide support to WUF13 ROAS regional mobilization efforts including: โ€ข Dissemination of WUF12 outcomes, share WUF12 key outcomes widely to enable uptake and application. โ€ข Facilitate the conduction of Country-level WUF13 promotion events, promote WUF13 across countries in the region where UN-Habitat has presence. โ€ข Coordinate WUF13 information sessions including regular regional info-sessions to raise awareness and build momentum, bringing together experts and stakeholders. โ€ข Support identification and nomination of regional experts and speakers to ensure regional representation in WUF13 main sessions. โ€ข Support in conducting outreach and briefing sessions with sector ministries across countries in the region where UN-Habitat has presence. โ€ข Support UN-Habitat Egypt Country Office in the end-to-end implementation of Cairo Urban Week 2026, including programme coordination, venue and speaker arrangements, logistics and contracting, and ongoing partner follow-up to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. โ€ข Prepare and finalize all required post-WUF13 reports and related documentation. Qualifications/special skillsA first-level university degree (Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent) in urban planning, civil or construction engineering, architecture, arts, political science, international development, or another relevant field is required. An advanced university degree (Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent) is an asset but not mandatory. Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in urban planning, international development projects, programme management, advocacy and partnerships, public relations, and/or communications is required. Experience in organizing webinars, workshops, or regional events, including logistical and content support is required. Experience in marketing, communication strategy, events and conferences management is an asset. Strong understanding of urban development issues and sustainable cities is an asset. LanguagesFluency in English and Arabic language is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage. Additional InformationNot available.
