Work LocationNew York Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: In September 2022, the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 76/306, established the UN Youth Office (UNYO) as a dedicated office for youth affairs in the UN Secretariat, incorporating the Office of the Envoy of the Secretary-General on Youth (OSGEY). Under the leadership of the first Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, this new office provides solid foundations to boost the United Nations' engagement with and for youth. With a robust mandate and dedicated resources from the United Nations Regular Budget for the first time, UNYO benefits from solid political support from Member States and a stable financial footing. The mandate of UNYO is to 1) Lead engagement and advocacy on youth issues across the pillars of United Nations' work- peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights; 2) Promote meaningful, inclusive, and effective engagement of youth and youth-led and youth focused organizations in the work of the United Nations; 3) Encourage greater UN coordination and accountability on the advancement of youth issues, including United Nations support to Member States; 4) Improve the conditions of internships and employment opportunities for youth in the UN with due regard to gender and geographical balance and 5) Outreach to youth through innovative means, including the use of social media, narrative storytelling, etc. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Prepare a publication of the Academic Report developed in partnership with the UN University Institute for Global Mental Health. 2. Strengthen partnerships and advancement of funding pathways for the UN Youth Office Flagship Initiative on Youth Mental Health & Well-Being. 3. Develop #Sports4MentalHealth Initiative, including its various branches such as Football for Mental Health and expanded multisectoral engagement. 4. Provide technical expertise to progress on the Climate Action & Youth Mental Health workstream, including capacity-building, advocacy, and youth network engagement. 5. Technical inputs in the preparation and collaboration with UN Women for the CSW High-Level Meeting, including coordination of programmatic and advocacy components. 6. Evaluate and conduct global mapping of opportunities for youth-led initiatives in mental health, ensuring accessibility and coherence across regions. 7. Cultivate global network of universities and scholars, strengthening research collaboration and academic engagement with the Flagship Initiative. 8. Contribute to the expansion and stewardship of the โ€œnetwork of networksโ€ on youth mental health, fostering coordinated action across youth-led organizations, civil society, and UN partners. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, public health, mental health and wellbeing, education, youth development, psychology, or other related disciplines is required. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience, including work on youth mental health, youth development, policy research, or advocacy is required. Experience in stakeholder mapping, policy analysis, and campaign development is desirable. LanguagesFluency in written and spoken English is required; proficiency of other UN Languages is desirable.
