Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of government and the international community for action. UNEP's Policy and Programme Division (PPD) is a center of excellence for strategic guidance and programmatic policy for UNEP, enabling UNEP's strategic and programmatic direction, ensuring organization-wide coherence and effectiveness in implementation and continuous improvement. The internship positions are based in the Gender and Safeguards Unit (GSU). Under the overall supervision of the Gender Programme Management Officer and the day-to-day supervision of the Gender Associate Officer and the Safeguards Officer respectively, the interns will be responsible for the following depending on their educational background, experiences, interests and capacities: 1. Support gender mainstreaming and/or safeguards risk identification and management integration by reviewing project proposals, publications and related documents and providing feedback. 2. Carry out research and summarize key developments and emerging trends related to gender and/or safeguards and the environment. 3. Participate in group discussions and contribute insights, ideas and feedback on key topics and issues. 4. Provide support to the Gender and Safeguards Unit of the Policy and Programme Division and assist with planning and coordinating meetings and events, especially at UNEA-7 and joint with UN Women campaign on 16 Days activities against Gender Based Violence. 5. Analyzes and monitors the use and uptake of gender and/or safeguards information on the UNEP Gender/Safeguards WeCollaborate page. 6. Draft impact stories and messages for UNEP digital platforms and for other communications opportunities. 7. Monitor and analyze the information uploaded on Open Data Portal and prepare report on the findings. 8. Assists in the development of LNOB, inclusivity, gender and/or safeguards related reporting, especially for UN-SWAP 3.0 and to the CPR, and on implementation of UNDIS and SDG 1 and SDG 10 indicators. 9. Support with the capacity building workshops and assessment (gender and disability inclusion). Contribute to preparations of presentations, analysis and visualization of the findings, etc. 10. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsA university degree in Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or related field with courses on gender in the pursued curriculum is preferred. Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (university degree or equivalent, or higher). b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent). c) Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. d) Applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications. e) Experience with usage of Canva is desirable f) Ability to professionally edit video footage is desirable.
